      fertility awareness -

     an approach to understanding nfp

Fertility is about having a baby!!

Although it is the woman who gets pregnant and goes through childbirth, fertility involves united and equal contributions of the man and the woman in the decision and ability to have a child. It is joint.

Male Fertility

A man is fertile EVERYDAY of his life starting from puberty.  This means he is able to get a woman pregnant.

In the conception of a child, the man contributes the sperm.  Male fertility ends at death.

Female Fertility

A girl's first menstruation signals that now she can get pregnant, although she is not fertile all the time.

In the conception of a child, the woman contributes the egg.  An egg is released at ovulation, which occurs once during each menstrual cycle. A woman is fertile for a few days a month only around the time of ovulation.

The cycle begins on the first day of menstruation until the day before the next menstruation.

A woman's fertility ends at menopause.

Timing of Lovemaking and Fertility

The sperm and egg meet thru intercourse. Lovemaking can occur anytime throughout the menstrual cycle.

A baby results from lovemaking only during the woman's fertile days when she releases an egg. The sperm unites with the egg to produce a baby.

At other times, lovemaking will not result in pregnancy.
